Employment Drug Testing (Non-DOT)

A non-DOT drug test is a drug screen that doesn't comply with DOT requirements. If you aren't subject to DOT regulations, you have a lot more freedom when it comes to structuring your drug screening program.

Non-DOT testing may produce the following benefits:

  • Lower risk of workplace accidents
  • Improved reputation in the community
  • Lower rates of substance use among employees
  • Reduced absenteeism
  • Increased productivity

Hair Drug Testing

Hair follicle drug abuse testing offers up to a 90-day window for detection of drug use and a convenient collection process that can be performed almost anywhere.

Specimen Collection

The collector obtains a 100-milligram sample of hair (90 to 120 strands) cut at the scalp. The collector secures the hair sample in foil and completes chain of custody documentation in preparation for shipment to the testing laboratory. Since hair samples are obtained in full view of the collector, the process minimizes the likelihood of sample adulteration or specimen substitution.

Oral Fluid Drug Testing

Oral fluid is an alternative matrix for drug testing that has recently been approved for use by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) in federal workplace drug testing programs.

Results for specimens that screen negative for all drugs are generally

available within 24-36 hours after specimens are received at the

laboratory. Results for confirmation testing of presumptive positive

screens are usually available within an additional 72 hours. Oral fluid

testing is suitable for all testing categories (e.g., preemployment, post-

accident, reasonable suspicion) and can be incorporated into your

current testing protocol as the primary specimen or as an alternate

specimen.
